If you order clothing online, is it brought to your door step or do they shove it in your mailbox?

I recently bought a stellar floral skirt and I've been really looking forward to it. To my luck, I checked online and it was shipped a little earlier than expected, so I keep checking my mailbox everyday but I was wondering if that was really necessary.
