Are we paying for BP's problems?

I don't know how it is across the country but in my area of East Anglia petrol at the BP garages' is 5p a litre (22.5p a gallon) more than other brands. If it is the same across the country are all us motorists struggling through the credit crunch etc paying the bill for BP's Oil Rig disaster and the subsequent capping, clean up and compensation expenses' ? In a competitive market there seems no other logical reason for such a high price differential.
